The current building is approximately 100 years old and during that time hasn’t changed all that much. Stange & Co. acquired the Fox in 1984, and made a few sympathetic improvements, converting some of the ground floor private accommodation and tea room into the lounge bar. We also created the car park out of the pub’s private garden, which took the lottery out of parking in the rear yard, accessed from the left hand side of the pub, can you imagine trying to back out onto Barnston Road today with the volume of traffic that passes by?!
As was the case for many decades with most pubs in Britain, the Fox is split into distinct rooms; the snug, the bar and the lounge. The public house part of the building was originally just the bar and the snug, thankfully they retain all the original carpentry, stained leaded glass and open fireplaces and surrounds and original wood block and quarry tile floors, giving a unique, timeless charm. The lounge too retains many original features, and with a little more space making it ideal for a quiet drink or bite to eat. Our recently added conservatory and garden room make for the perfect dining experience to try our delicious homemade menu.

Our History
The Fox & Hounds is built on a site that has been home to a pub for nearly 400 years, making it one of Wirral’s oldest pubs. There seems to have been a pub or pubs in the village since at least the sixteenth century. Read more about the history of the Fox & Hounds HERE.
