It's with a very happy heart that we can once again welcome customers back to the pub, we have really missed the buzz and the atmosphere about the place.
Whilst it may just be outside and under the ‘rule of 6’, and it may involve coats and warm jumpers, the odd umbrella and the dodging of a brief April shower, it will however, mean we are once again able to enjoy a proper pint of beer, a glass of something cold and crisp on the patio, some delicious food and tempting nibbles. But most importantly, it means we can all see each other once again, not on a screen, not through a window or other side of the road but across a table from one another, at a pub, enjoying a drink and each other’s company, one of the simplest and greatest pleasures in life.
Rule of '6' - We are able to accept bookings for a group of up to 6 people from multiple households (includes children) or in a larger group from up to two households.
As we are reliant on the rather unreliable British weather for the next month of so, taking bookings for outdoor tables presents some challenges. We do however have a number of permanently covered outdoor tables which we will take reservations for by telephone 0151 648 7685. Most of our tables are however open to the elements and so these will only be made available on a first come first served basis, so if it does tip it down, we’re not having to disappoint people by cancelling that table. Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed for a for some warm sunny weather so that we can celebrate the reopening of society in true British style…….at the pub, drink in hand, in the sunshine.

The Fox & Hounds, a traditional country pub nestled in the beautiful conservation village of Barnston.
The Fox & Hounds has stood the test of time, with a public house being recorded on the site since the 16th century. For the majority of its life "the Fox" as we’re affectionately known, was a place for quenching one’s thirst after toiling in the local fields or travelling with your horse up and down the dale and through Barnston. In recent years however our customers tend to come from a little further afield and usually under the power of more than just the one horse. The pub retains much of its architectural features and charm from when it was rebuilt in 1911, still offering traditional separate lounge and bar areas. Our traditional bar offering something for those preferring to ‘rough it’, or for those looking for something a little more refined and quiet, our lounge area should suffice.
We stock a cracking range of local cask ales, lagers and ciders. Our most popular pint pulled is the locally brewed ‘Trappers Hat’ from Brimstage, just over a mile away. We have a great selection of over 60 malts and whiskies, together with a variety of gins, vodkas and rums. We also have a carefully selected wine list along with a choice of soft and hot drinks.
Our hearty homemade menu is served seven days a week along with our popular Sunday roasts. Wholesome pub classics make up much of our menu, with a number of seasonal and local specials for those looking for something a little different, and to finish an assortment of mouth-watering desserts.
We pride ourselves on our warm and friendly atmosphere creating a homely and relaxed pub where we hope you’ll make yourself at home. If there is anything that you would like to know about the pub, or have any special requests please just ask one of the team and we’ll do our very best to help.
